Clinical Research

Clinical Research

Clinical research trials are studies that evaluate new and improved methods to treat cancer. Cancer clinical trials have brought enormous advances in the areas of cancer prevention, treatment and diagnosis. The development of these methods is a tedious, well-regulated and rewarding process. However, less than 5 percent of adults diagnosed with cancer each year will seek treatment through enrollment in a clinical trial. The reasons for this phenomenon include lack of knowledge about clinical trials, misconceptions, and disinterest. The final determination of a trial is whether new treatments are safe and effective and surpass current treatments. The hallmark of all clinical research is always patient safety and wellness. When you take part in a clinical trial, you add to our knowledge about cancer and help improve cancer care.

Carolina Oncology Specialists offers the opportunity for patients to participate in clinical research trials. If your medical condition, in addition to many other factors, qualifies you for participation in an open trial, information will be provided by a member of our Research Department. The clinical research staff will navigate your plan of care throughout the entire process. We have participated in numerous clinical trials and instrumental in the approval and usage of many drugs on the market today. When you take part in a clinical trial, you add to our knowledge about cancer and help improve cancer care.
